Why are Christians so freaked out by science?

So I am a Christian and a molecular biologist. Why do so many Christians have such a problem with this concept that you can both believe and think at the same time? Nature is a beautiful thing and worth study. He doesn't make junk and He sure likes a good mystery! The way I figure, God wouldn't have created our intellects if She didn't want us to use them. I believe that God created the universe and the process of evolution on this earth. Why? Faith that's why. All things are possible. Why is it so hard for Christians to accept scientists as true believers rather than labeling scientists as "trying to be God".
